The transformation of social values and beliefs plays a decisive role in shaping human worldviews and can fundamentally alter the course of collective behaviors, attitudes, and decisions. Profound changes in societal beliefs not only affect individuals' daily lives but can also pave the way for social movements, protests, and even revolutions. Revolutionary values, especially those rooted in the religious and cultural beliefs of society, require representation in various cultural and artistic spheres to establish and expand themselves. Media and art, by reproducing and reflecting these values, act as intermediaries between ideas and society, enabling widespread influence on public opinion. In this context, cinema, as one of the most powerful modern media, can symbolically and visually represent social values and beliefs, and the representation of cultural and religious values in pre-revolutionary Iranian cinema is a clear example of this process.
This article, using content analysis and symbolic tracking of the subjective values of pre-Islamic Revolution society, examines the role of cinema in the formation of the 1979 Islamic Revolution. The main research question is: How did cinema contribute to changing beliefs and strengthening societal values? The hypothesis of this research is that during the second Pahlavi era, some films, by representing and promoting societal values, were effective in creating a revolutionary atmosphere.
